In praise of word sprints.

Check out the YA Buccaneers! Who doesn't love pirates and YA?

Last night I participated in a word sprint through the new blog YA Buccaneers. For those of you who have never heard of a word sprint, it's where you write like crazy for a set amount of time (usually between 30 and 60 minutes). You can set a goal or just see where your word count ends up. At the beginning and end, you post a status on Twitter, saying your goal and what word count you wound up with at the end. (#YABwordsprint)

YA Buccaneers hosted two word sprints last night, and I decided to join in. I'd been tiptoeing around a scene ALL DAY and just needed to go for it. I wound up writing 1,313 words, probably the most I've ever written in an hour. Needless to say, I'm a fan of word sprints now.

If you're interested in participating, keep an eye out on the YA Buccaneers Word Sprints calendar. They're planning more soon!

  1. That's awesome that you joined in, Caitlin! I'm never writing when word sprints are going on, whether for RSW or YA Buccaneers. I do all my writing during the early afternoon. I love that everyone seems to be getting so much out of the sprints, though. There's nothing like having support from your writer friends. Good job on the word count, too! Go you! :)

    1. Thanks Jaime! All the tweets and support for everyone make writing even more fun. This was my first one, and I'm definitely going to do more. :)
