Myths about writers

I'm drawing today's blog inspiration from the list of 101 Blog Post Ideas for Writers. Let me know if you do the same!

Today's topic: Myths about writers
1. We all want to write the Next Great American Novel. Um, no way. I don’t need that kind of pressure in my life!

2. We are all caffeine addicts and/or alcoholics. Not necessarily true. I do occasionally suffer from overcaffeination, but that’s it. We aren’t all Ernest Hemingway, folks!

3. If we get mad at you, we will write you into our story/novel and kill you. Again, not necessarily true. But I make no promises.
4. Writers are all rich. Hahahahaha…would you like to see my bank account? Even published writers aren’t rolling in money. My dad was stunned when I told him that publishing one book does not make you rich (unless you’re J.K. Rowling).

5. We are all socially awkward. This, to some extent, might be true. It’s hard to act normal when you talk to an entire cast of characters in your head!
What are some common writerly misconceptions you've noticed?

  1. Sometimes it's more fun to talk to that cast of characters than actual people! ;-)

  2. Good points all! I love this 101 List and have done a couple of them myself. thanks for sharing!

  3. I nodded along to everything on your list!
