What's Up Wednesday/Writer Recharge final post

Happy Wednesday everyone! This week has been super busy even though a couple of my classes were cancelled. Here's what I've been up to:

What I'm Reading
ALL OF THE THINGS. AGAIN. I finished THE EMPEROR'S CHILDREN for my Contemporary Novels class (and have to do a presentation on it in a few weeks, aah!) and gave up on Denis Johnson's SEEK. I read about 100 pages and couldn't do it anymore. Too boring. As for fun books, I finished and reviewed LEGEND by Marie Lu. I also read (and will be reviewing soon) SHATTER ME by Tahereh Mafi, LEAP OF FAITH by Jamie Blair, and THE MAGICIAN'S NEPHEW (the first Narnia book) by C. S. Lewis. I've been super excited about reading lately!

Currently I'm reading DEAR LIFE, Alice Munro's latest short story collection, for school. I also ordered some books from Amazon that should be coming soon!

What I'm Writing
I've been so preoccupied with all the books for school and fun that I haven't done much writing. I'm slowly working through a short story I started a month ago, and I love my main character, which helps. I've also started coming up with some new ideas for travel essays and short stories, which I'm saving up in a "to-be-written" list for future writing pieces.

I did reach most of my Writer Recharge goals, though! I wrote both my long and short travel essays as well as my critical paper on THE CORRECTIONS. I'm almost finished with my "Big Sister" short story revisions (and may have even found a real title to replace this stupid temporary one!). Sticking to the writing schedule was tougher...it's still a work-in-progress. One step at a time, I guess! :)

What Inspires Me Right Now
Spring break! The day after tomorrow, I will be homeward bound! I can't wait to see my family (but I CAN wait for the endless stream of doctors appointments I have to go to while I'm home...that's the problem with living so far away from your doctors/dentists) and relax for a while.

What Else Is New?
I can't believe it's MARCH. The semester looks a LOT shorter from this side of February, that's for sure. And since it's March, all this snow needs to go away. It's not funny anymore, Mother Nature!!!

How was your week? Have you read any of the books I talked about today? As sick of the snow as I am?

    1. Thanks Katy! I love these sorts of goal-oriented months...you're right, they do seem to help everyone involved! :)

  2. I give up on books more easily now that I have a To Be Read list of 100+ books. I usually try to pinpoint why I stopped reading as something to learn from as a writer. Some books are not for everyone. And some books simply are boring :)

    1. I agree, it's definitely much harder to stick with a not-so-great book when you've got tons of others on your shelf, calling your name!

  3. It feels completely mad for it to be March already ^^;

    1. Thanks! I've been in such a reading mood lately, I think to balance all the boring reading I've had to do for school...I like to remind myself that fun books still exist! ;) And I know, I can't believe it's already March!

  4. Congrats on meeting your writing goals. I can't believe it's March. It seems like we were just celebrating the New Year. This year is going by fast. I haven't read anything by Tahereh Mafi but I plan to start when I get through my TBR pile that's staring at me on my bookshelf. Have a great weekend!

    1. This year has flown by so far! And I hope you like Tahereh Mafi when you read her books. I'll be posting a review at some point. Her writing style is different but cool, and the story itself kept me flipping pages!

  5. I'm pretty sure the snow is NEVER going away. Seriously. At this rate, it'll still be here in June. :P

  6. So you have a TBW (To Be Written) pile, too? Mine's not as long as my TBR, but it's long enough! Congrats for making most of your Writer Recharge goals. This challenge helped me a lot last month, too. :)

    Have an awesome week, Kaitlin!

    1. Yup, I definitely have a TBW list! :) I go back to it when I have a story due for class and am panicking because I have zero ideas. It's nice to have some in my back pocket.

      Have a great week, Colin!
