What's Up Wednesday!

Happy Wednesday once again! In two weeks I should be home with my family, completely done with my semester!!!!!! That's all that's keeping me going right now. Portfolios and final papers are wiping me out.

Here we go, Wednesday!

What I'm Reading
I finished HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG by Andre Dubus III for class and CHAMPION for fun. I'm currently reading CODE NAME VERITY because I've heard buzz about it for ages, but I'm having a little bit of a hard time so far. I think the format has thrown me off (the narrator is a British spy writing confessions and information to her German captors) but I'm sticking with it! I'm also reading a book called KING OF THE BADGERS by Philip Hensher for my Contemp. Novels class. Last book of the semester, let's do this!

What I'm Writing
Revisions revisions revisions! I turned in my short story portfolio yesterday (cheer!) and just finished revisions of my travel writing portfolio (double cheer!) which I'll turn in tomorrow. All that's left is a 15 page paper on a topic I have yet to determine...wish me luck!

What Inspires Me Right Now
The light at the end of the long dark tunnel is starting to get brighter. I've been ready for the end of the semester since...January. Now that it's almost here, I'm so excited!

What Else Is New
In an effort to eliminate unnecessary stress in my life, I quit my job in Student Activities last week. Event planning is too much for me to handle, and the job stopped being fun for me a long time ago. I'm lucky enough that the company I work for during the summer/winter vacations has an office in Pittsburgh and they've agreed to let me come in a few days a week and work for them! So I'll be starting that in the fall. Can't wait!
In other news, my car is officially up and running again. Hooray!
In other other news, I'm loving my Kindle!!! I haven't bought any books on it yet since I still have several physical copies I need to read, but I've been downloading the free samples of the first few chapters of books and reading them (much nicer than scrolling through them on a computer) and adding to my Need To Buy booklist. So much fun!

Happy Wednesday everyone!

  1. Holy cow, only two weeks left in the semester? That seems like it FLEW (well ... to me ... probably not to you)! Sending good vibes for that final paper. You can do it! :)

    1. Thanks Shari! Our semester ends sort of early because Chatham has to squash a 3-week May semester in before the school graduation.

And thanks for the good vibes...I finished my outline today and am hoping the first draft of the paper will be close to the page requirement. There's nothing worse than adding filler text!

  2. I should be moving on to CHAMPION next (just finished PRODIGY), but since DREAMS OF GODS & MONSTERS arrived in the mail, I think I'm going to *have* to read that one! You know, I've heard from a handful of people that CODE NAME VERITY wasn't easy to get into/they didn't love it as much as everyone else did. I've had it on my shelf now for more than a year and still haven't gotten to it. That might be why? Not sure.

Congrats on finishing up revisions! And good luck on that 15-pager. Eek! (It's been awhile since I last wrote a biggish paper.) Have a great week, Kaitlin! :-)

    1. I actually just finished CODE NAME VERITY a few minutes ago, and it's definitely a challenge to get into. It's a 3/5 stars for me (leaning toward a 3.5 because it did tug at my heart toward the end). Historical fiction isn't really my thing, but I wanted to give it a try because of the praise/awards it received. There are powerful moments of the story I'll never forget, but a lot of the smaller details were confusing (airplane names, cities, code words).

And thanks for the luck on my paper! It's slowly coming along!

  3. CODE NAME VERITY really is an excellent book but I totally agree with you that the format takes a little getting used to. Congratulations on consciously reducing the stress in your life. What a huge relief that must be. And yay on the end of the semester! Have a great weekend.

    1. The form definitely was a challenge! I just finished it -- I enjoyed the second half of the book more than the first, I think. The friendship between the two girls was powerful and probably my favorite aspect of the book!
