What's Up Wednesday!

Welcome to another What's Up Wednesday, hosted by Jaime and Erin

What I’m Reading
Finished TELL THE WOLVES I’M HOME (one of the best books I’ve read this year so far), reread Sarah Dessen’s ALONG FOR THE RIDE because I needed a good summer book, and am working my way through Chris Colfer’s Land of Stories series. Last night I finished rereading book one, THE WISHING SPELL. Next up is THE ENCHANTRESS RETURNS, and I’m also planning to reread Sarah Dessen’s KEEPING THE MOON.

What I’m Writing
To accomplish my RSW goal for the week, I’m trying to write every day. Since Monday I’ve written over 2k, which is VERY exciting for me because I am possibly the slowest writer in the universe. This time next week I’ll be in Pittsburgh for a summer writing workshop, so my WiP will be on the back burner (I’ll be writing short stories for the workshop). Trying to squeeze in as much work on my WiP as I can this week!

What Inspires Me Lately
My RSW goal and the Booktube-A-Thon on YouTube. There’s a week-long reading marathon happening right now and while I’m not fully participating (making videos, posting progress updates), I’m trying to reach some of the goals. In particular, I’m attempting to read 300 pages a day. I’ve accomplished it on Mon/Tues, but we’ll see if I’m able to keep it up! I love watching everyone’s progress videos on YouTube and seeing what people are reading.

What Else Is New
We celebrated my mom’s birthday last weekend! We went out to eat and ended up with multiple cakes in the house, which is always fun.

I also started a new crocheting project: a granny stripe rainbow afghan!

I’ll probably be MIA for the next few Wednesdays since my schedule for the writing workshop is pretty crazy. Have a great week everyone!

  1. I love the books you are reading. It's so much fun to find books I ought to have already known about but don't! Have a great time at your writing workshop. It sounds amazing!

    1. I'm sort of obsessed with book recommendations! Most of the ones I read have been recommended to me by someone. Hope you have a great rest of your week, Melanie!

  2. You and your mom are so cute! And you know I'm loving that afghan -- the colors are perfection. I thought TELL THE WOLVES I'M HOME was incredible as well. It's not a book I would've picked up had it not been for recs, but I'm so glad I found it. Such a beautiful story!

    1. Thanks Katy! I've wanted to make a rainbow afghan for a while as an excuse to use up my extra yarn, but I wound up buying more new yarn for it...oops! Haha! And I agree, SO glad I found WOLVES (I randomly picked it up at Target because the cover caught my eye) because the story is amazing!

  6. Wow! You're getting so much done this week! I still haven't read either Sarah Dessen book you mentioned, but I do have KEEPING THE MOON on my shelf. I probably need to read at least one Dessen this summer. :-) Love the picture of you and your mom and the pic of the afghan too! Good luck with all the writing this week. You can do it!

    1. I'm on a bit of a Dessen kick right now...must be the summertime air! ;) KEEPING THE MOON is one of her earlier books and is set in her fictional beach town. ALONG FOR THE RIDE is in the same town and has a couple character connections to KTM, so I wanted to reread them together. Let me know if you read any of her books this summer!

As always, thanks for the motivation, Jaime! :) Have a great rest of your week!

  7. I love the colors on that afghan! And that's a ton of reading. I had to laugh at the slowest writer in the world...one of my favorite phrases ;)

    1. Thank you! And haha, I know that it's better to write slowly than not at all, but sometimes it feels like writing takes me forever. :) Have a great week!

    1. Thanks so much! :) The workshop sounds like it's going to be hectic, but I'm hoping to learn a lot. Have a great rest of your week!

  9. Hey there! Looks like you're reading a bunch of fun books, and hurray for writing every day, even if it's slow. That's me too at the moment, just a few hundred words a day.
