What's Up Wednesday!

This week flew by in a blur of HEAVENLY FIRE. That’s right, I spent most of my week reading CITY OF HEAVENLY FIRE, the final book in Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments series. No spoilers here, don’t worry, but I thought it was excellent! Also, 720 pages? I’ll take that!

Anyway, here’s what else I’ve been up to:

What I’m Reading
Obviously I dove into COHF after finishing my refresher/reread of CITY OF LOST SOULS. After
my "OMG IT'S 700 PAGES" face
that I needed something different. I’ve been reading lots of dystopian/fantasy series lately, so I decided to go back to my bookshelf staple: contemporary! I’m attempting to plot out a story that’s been in my brain for a while, one that takes place on a college campus, so I picked up FANGIRL by Rainbow Rowell and am halfway through rereading it. Loving it just as much as I did the first time! If you have not read this book, RUN to the nearest bookstore and pick up a copy. It’s fantastic!

What I’m Writing
Brainstorming a few potential projects, writing a scene here and there. I’m rereading the project I worked on last year (I wrote approx. half a draft before going back to school in the fall) and revising/taking notes/finding ideas I want to expand on and continue during the second half. My outline for the rest of the draft has been pretty thin, so hopefully this reread/revision will spark some new ideas!

What Inspires Me Right Now
Ready. Set. WRITE! is starting on Monday! I participated in this summer writing intensive last year, and it was super motivational. I’m making my goals and can’t wait to encourage all the other participants along the way.

What Else Is New?
I’M SEEING TFIOS THURSDAY NIGHT! My friend’s local movie theater has pre-midnight showings, so I’m staying with her Thursday and we’re going to bawl our eyes out. I honestly cannot wait! I’ve been looking forward to this movie for a year, and now it’s finally here!

I’m running three days a week on the back roads near my house in an attempt to get back in shape. It’s been tough (we live on hilly roads) but each time gets a little bit easier (aka. I want to fall down in the middle of the road and never get up a little less each time).

Happy Wednesday everybody! Let me know if you’re doing Ready. Set. WRITE! too.

  1. I adore FANGIRL. That might be one I reread this summer, too. It's angsty, but there's so much joy in it as well. I love Rainbow Rowell's style. Have so much fun at TFIOS tomorrow! I can't wait to see it! Also, yay for RSW! Can't wait to hear more about the project you'll be working on. Have a great week, Kaitlin!

  3. Fangirl is NEXT for me, as soon as I finish Cress. I've been waiting for TFIOS forever, but now I'm feeling a little nervous. I bawled for days after reading the book. Can I really handle the movie? Have fun!

  7. Just ordered a copy of CITY OF HEAVENLY FIRE. I still need to finish the books leading up to it, but I'm eager to do so now. :-) I so badly want to see TFIOS when it comes out this week, but I think I'll probably have to wait awhile. That said, I'm not super eager to bawl my eyes out in a theatre lol.

Your draft with the thin outline for the second half sounds like a similar sort of situation that my WiP is in. Here's hoping we can sort this out during RSW!

  10. I've been on a rereading binge lately, too, mainly because The Boyfriend and I have been reading Harry Potter and it's put me in a nostalgic mood ;) I can't wait to read Fangirl!

Great job with the running, those hills sound scary to my pathetically-unfit legs. Enjoy TFiOS, and have a wonderful week, Kaitlin!
