A quick What's Up Wednesday

Can't believe it's Wednesday already! The week has flown by...and I haven't been as productive as I would've liked. Oh well, guess we'll see how I work under pressure!

What I'm Reading
I finished THE IMPOSSIBLE KNIFE OF MEMORY by Laurie Halse Anderson (hoping to post a review soon!) and am still working through THE CORRECTIONS by Jonathan Franzen for my Contemporary Novels class.

What I'm Writing
I finished a rough draft of my South Africa travel essay! This was a pretty hard one to write because my motivation just wasn't there. It's about visiting an Islamic high school, and we all wore headscarves and got to watch morning prayers and met a bunch of cool people. I'm going to look over it today before sending it out for workshop critiques. I have a ton of small exercises to write for Travel Writing too that I just need to sit down and knock out.

What Inspires Me Right Now
Not much. Searching for motivation anywhere I can find it. I'm just not into school right now. All I want to do is watch TV and do puzzles.

What Else I've Been Up To
Again, not much. School, work, homework, puzzles. For work, I had to help interview and select the resident assistants and orientation leaders for next semester. We had them all come to the gym at once and did team building exercises with them. It was nice for me because I didn't have to do the activities, just facilitate. Team building stuff stresses me out!

Okay, I'm off to do homework before my motivation entirely wears off. Happy Wednesday everyone!

  1. I hear you on the searching for motivation thing, Kaitlin. I've been there for WAY too long now. I really hope you're able to find the motivation you're looking for! Oh, and I'm nodding my head over your comment about team-building stuff. Ugh. They've always stressed me out too. Have a great week, Kaitlin, with lots and lots of motivation. :)

    1. Team-building activities shoot my stress level through the roof! I always wind up doing something dumb. :p It was nice this time, though, because I didn't have to do it!

I hope you find your motivation as well. My semester is getting busy, so I'm entering the maniac mode of OMG MUST GET EVERYTHING DONE BEFORE SPRING BREAK SO I DON'T HAVE TO DO HOMEWORK AT HOME! So I guess I've sort of found motivation? ;)

    1. Thanks so much! My essay is getting workshopped in class on Thursday, but once I revise it I'll definitely post it here! :)

  3. South Africa's beautiful, isn't it? I went there when I was 11. One of these days I'll have to go back ^_^

    1. It really is gorgeous! It's a place I never thought I'd have the opportunity to visit, and I'm so grateful I could go. :)

  4. Team building stuff stresses me out too. I have to do some stupid team building activity (they say it'll involve a musical of some sort ... this scares me) at the end of the month at work. So not looking forward to it. I hope you find your inspiration soon!

    1. Yikes! I hope your team-building activity isn't too painful! I don't know why we can't all just sit around, drinking coffee and eating donuts and chatting. Whatever happened to simple mingling to get to know each other? Now we have to spend hours trying to untangle our arms in the Human Knot exercise and playing charades? Not cool!

      Have a great week Kim!

  5. Sorry you're having a hard time getting motivated about school, Kaitlin. Sometimes I find it helpful to ask myself why I'm doing something--try to get back to the core reasons that made me want to do that thing. Maybe that'll help you? I hope something stirs your heart soon. :)

    Have a wonderful week!

    1. Thanks Colin! I'm slowly gaining motivation, mostly because my spring break is coming up and I want to get all my work done before then. My main problem has been the assignments and readings that don't really apply to what I want to do. Next semester I'll start my thesis and will be able to focus on my favorite parts of writing, so I'm working toward that!

      Have a great week!
