Writer Recharge Update: Week 1

I joined Writer Recharge, a February motivation challenge to get writing. I've got a long way to go (and a short amount of time) to accomplish my goals, but I'm slowly making progress.

This past week I've focused on writing an essay about my trip to South Africa for my travel writing class. I have to submit it on Thursday to be put up for workshop the following week. I've written eight pages so far, and my goal is to hit at least eleven or twelve before sending it out to workshop.

I'm trying to stick to my writing day schedule. Tomorrow will be my second Tuesday where I writewritewrite all day. I made my haircut appointment for 9:30 AM so I can have plenty of time before my night class to write.

How is everyone else doing with their goals?

    1. Thanks Elodie! I'm reeeeally bad about sticking to a writing schedule (that's one of my Writer Recharge goals), but when I sit down and really write, I block out about two hours at a time. I'm a pretty slow writer. :p But I get stories done eventually, so I guess that's what matters!

  2. Hello from Writer Recharge. I love to travel and am curious to learn more about what goes into travel writing. Did you take pages and pages of notes while you were in South Africa, or are you going by post-travel impressions to do your essay? Just curious. Good luck with the writing.

    1. Hi Cynthia, it's nice to meet you! I have tons and tons of notes in my travel journal from my time in South Africa, but looking back, they aren't super detailed. So I'm going off a lot of post-travel impressions and pictures my friends and I took on the trip. :)

Good luck with your writing goals!

  4. Travel writing sounds fascinating.
I'm trying to come up with a writing schedule that works around my families needs. Currently it is write whenever its quiet for a minute. A day of writing sounds wonderful! I hope that you enjoy it and make lots of progress.

    1. Hi Sarah! Squeezing in writing time whenever you can is great! That's what I normally do...this writing schedule is new for me, and it's definitely a challenge.

Hope your writing goals are going well!
