Ready. Set. WRITE! (Week 5)

I may or may not have waited to post this until I got home from work and could finish the goals I set for myself last week...shh!

Ready. Set. WRITE! is a summer writing intensive hosted by Jaime MorrowErin FunkKaty Upperman, and Alison Miller. Every Monday we post our progress toward the goals we made at the beginning. Here's my update for the week!

How I did on last week’s goals
I wrote a little bit more of my shiny new WiP and started character sketches of my two major characters. Slow going, but it’s progress!
I also FINALLY finished my first round of TNW edits! 139 pages total, so I'm about halfway through the draft. Now I just need to write the rest of it...

My goals for this week
-Get back into my routine of writing in the morning on the days when I’m not at work (Thurs-Sun)
-Try and start a short story for my summer writing intensive at Chatham (so I’ll have material to fall back on if I can’t think of anything once the class starts, which, let’s face it, always happens.)
-Keep working on the shiny new WiP

A favorite line from my story OR one word/phrase that sums up what I wrote/revised
"Our brioche bread is made fresh every morning by two very grumpy college kids—their tears make the French toast taste that much sweeter."

The biggest challenge I faced this week
Distractions. My routine keeps being disrupted by fun things (breakfast at a diner AND shopping instead of writing? Yes please!) and I need to be more disciplined again.

Something I love about my WiP
Every scene I’ve written so far involves food. Nom nom nom!

  1. omg - food excerpts. Two of my characters just had a conversation over fried ice cream. I gained five pounds as a result. :)

Good luck with your goals this week! And yay for finishing round one edits! Go YOU!

  2. Food is the best. I need to figure out a way to incorporate more food in my WIP. There can never be enough! Best of luck this week!

  3. I hear you on the distraction thing. That's been a huge issue for me too, especially this week with my husband home. Sounds like you made great progress, though! Good job! Hope this week is equally productive! :D
