What's Up Wednesday!

What's up, Wednesday-ers? Welcome to another What's Up Wednesday blog hop, hosted by Jaime and Erin!

What I’m Reading
I’m doing the Bout of Books reading challenge (see my goals here) and so far I’ve finished THE BATTLE OF THE LABYRINTH and have 100 pages left of THE LAST OLYMPIAN (Percy Jackson #4 and #5). I LOVE THESE BOOKS. They’re fun and snarky and fascinating and surprising. There have been plot twists I didn’t see coming at all! Percy Jackson might be my new fictional (way underage) boyfriend. Is that creepy? Maybe? I also finished book 3, THE TITAN’S CURSE, before starting Bout of Books on Monday.

What I’m Writing
HA. NOTHING. This week is my last before I’m back to writing like crazy at school (it’s thesis year, dun dun dunnnnnnn!) so I’m treating myself to a little time off!

What Inspires Me Right Now
PERCY JACKSON! I kind of want to lead a battle to save New York City AND a world of Greek gods because Percy makes it look so good. My brother and I rewatched both movies yesterday. I know, I know, they’re not great, but Logan Lerman is 100% the Percy I picture when reading!

What Else Is New
SHAKE IT OFF! SHAKE IT OFF! Taylor Swift’s new pop single was released on Monday night, and I’m pretty sure it won’t leave my head until her album 1989 comes out at the end of October. She released the music video too, and it’s so fun to watch. As sad as I am about her leaving country music, I think this change will be good for her. She look so happy and confident, and I hope all the negativity surrounding her FINALLY starts to go away.

  1. I still need to read the Percy Jackson books, I keep meaning to and then it just doesn't happen!

I haven't listened to Taylor Swift's new song yet but I've heard it's a lot of fun - I think she gets way too much criticism, so you're not alone in hoping things surrounding her become more positive. :)

    Enjoy your week off writing!

    1. I was the same way about Percy Jackson. I made it my summer goal to read them and FINALLY did. They're excellent and so much fun! I hope you get around to reading them soon.

And AMEN to the Taylor support. Her song is great (and not about breaking up with a guy) so hopefully that will help turn those negative opinions around!

  2. Hi Kaitlin!! I have never understood the hate directed towards Taylor Swift (I think that will be a topic of a future blog post of mine). I've always liked her music and her humility. And I think with a thesis year in store, you're deserving of a little time off :)

    1. I agree! I don't think Taylor is deserving of the hate she gets...some people just like to look for the negative things in everybody, I guess. I'd love to read your blog post about it!

  3. I put Shake It Off in my What Inspires Me Now section because I LOVE HER and LOVE the song! So excited for a new album! Every time she comes out with something new I think I won't love it as much as the last one but I always end up loving it more.
Also love Percy Jackson. One of the best and funniest voices I've ever read. My 10-year-old daughter loved them too.

    1. Shake It Off is definitely an inspiring song and message! Taylor always surprises me when she releases something new, and I can't wait to hear this next album!

  4. I haven't listening to Shake It Off yet, but I saw a part of the video clip on TV and I could just TELL it looked catchy, although most Taylor songs are...

Gahhh, PJ! I've asked for the boxset for about three birthdays in a row to no avail (why do people keep getting me journals? It's like they think, 'she's a writer, she must need something to write in!' I have journals coming out of my ears) - I'm thinking it's time to bite the bullet and buy the damn thing :)

Have a wonderful week and enjoy your me-time!

    1. The video is hilarious! I admire her for making fun of herself in it and doing what makes her happy no matter what other people think.

And journals seem to be the most popular gift for writers, but I agree with you, I have way too many! And I usually just write in boring spiral notebooks because I don't want to mess up the pretty journals! Hope you get a hold of PJ soon!

  5. Hah! "(it’s thesis year, dun dun dunnnnnnn!)" Too funny. But I know exactly how you feel. :)

And I think you could totally lead a battle to save New York. If I hear any chatter of a potential threat, I'll let you know. *hands you a magic pen* ;)

Hope you have a stellar week and a nice break before school starts!
